Supreme Court of Virginia
The Supreme Court of Virginia is Virginia’s court of last resort. At this site you will find general information about the Supreme Court as well as a selection of forms.
Court of Appeals of Virginia The Court of Appeals of Virginia is Virginia’s intermediate appellate court. General information about the court and a selection of forms are found at this site.

Circuit Court The Circuit Court is a trial court. The court handles civil cases with claims of more than $15,000, shares authority with the General District Court to hear matters in volving between $4500 and $15,000 and hears serious criminal cases. The circuit court also handles family matters including divorce. There is a circuit court in each city and count in Virginia. General District Court The General District Court handles most traffic violations, minor criminal cases and conducts preliminary hearings for serious criminal cases. The General District Court has exclusive authority to hear civil cases with claims of $4500 or less. There is a general district court in each city and county in Virginia. Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court The Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court hears all matters involving juveniles such as criminal offenses and traffic matters. It also handles family matters including custody, support and visitation. Family abuse cases are also heard in the juvenile and domestic relations court. There is a juvenile and domestic relations court in each city and county in Virginia.
